1. Welcome to the magical age of 44 !! What would you love to do/experience this coming year??
This year feels like a power year for me, 44 solar returns and as they progress, they seem to get sweeter and sweeter! I would love to spend more time in nature, more sunrise paddles, more mid-morning walks with my dogs and sunsets on my new front patio! I want to experience the art of slowing down in real-time. I really want to get my greenhouse and gardens going this year. I want to grow lots of my own food this spring, summer and fall. I hope to have enough to share with our community too!
2. This last spring you received the torch as co-owner of our sweet space! What have you learned so far as you've stepped into this roll?
Oh boy, what have I learned? I don’t think we have time for that answer, do we? LOL! I have learned the true meaning of commUnity. What it feels like to be held and seen not just during tough times but every time you walk
through these doors! There is always someone here and they are in their authentic self. I have learned how to lean on others during my most vulnerable moments. This community literally carried me through the scariest chapter of my life, with open arms, golden hearts and fierce loving support. I didn’t know how much I was missing until it all fell apart… I have learned how to give myself permission to step away, to slow down and care for myself in a whole new way. And that’s not all! I have learned so much about our community, the folks who keep our doors open. The kindness and creativity and wild laughter that flows from these incredible humans out and into the world is such a gift. And I have learned that Be Free is a safe space for people to shine brightly!!!
3. In the last two years, you dove deep into two different training courses. You got your Death Doula certification and did a deep dive into healing through the voice! What were your biggest takeaways from those trainings?
Vocal work is a passion of mine! Our words can be used in so many ways, for better and for worse. Our throat chakras are begging for our attention, refinement, curiosity and courage to be exercised with compassion and truth. Leading with the heart and speaking what is true for ourselves out into the world. Mmmmmmmm, we are all vibration, sound in human form and our voice is the key to deep transformative healing from within.
Living in a death phobic culture is such an interesting experience from my perspective that is. I have found death to be one of my greatest teachers, a gift that will challenge your concept of what a gift truly is. What I love about the journey of the death doula is
coming to realize we are all qualified to walk each other home. And the more curious we ca n get about our own journey toward the end of life, the more alive we will be as we navigate the path!
4. Tell us about what's currently lighting you up!
Currently, I have been diving more into learning new songs to sing and working on playing with my Ukulele more. I also started taking some Ayurvedic cooking classes to reinspire some creative and fresh new ways to cook food for me and my family. Although I don’t know that my 16yr old is totally on board with it, at least not at this moment. LOL!
But I would have to say that what truly is lighting me up right now is co-creating with my dear sister Michelle Trumble. We have been crafting sacred circles for women for the last several months and these gatherings fill my heart to the brim! They have re-inspired the flame within me to bring back online a very special offering I curated several years ago, only this time I get to weave in the magic of sound and death work and walk the path with my sister by my side. So, keep an eye out for: ROOTED – Reawakening the Wild Within. Launching this fall….
5. What would you love new folks to our space to know?
I would love for new folks to know that Be Free is truly a place to call home. That we are inclusive, that diversity wins, that YOU matter, that our main goal is to keep and provide a healing space that is accessible to all bodies… If you are seeking community, you have found it! Just lean in and let the arms hold you.
I would like new folks to know that Melanie and I are here to listen, to help you grow and to help you receive all of the magic that pours through our staff and out into the world! I want you to know that The Be Free Healing center is PURE MAGIC! And we are all here for you.
