We’re so happy to be welcoming Ryan Smith to our Wellness Practitioner Team! He offers Craniosacral Therapy and is such a sweet and nurturing soul! We asked him some questions so you can catch his vibe…
1. Tell us about your journey with craniosacral therapy and where your passion stems from.
My passion for craniosacral therapy stems from my own personal health journey dealing with a number of concussions playing college soccer and my gut health. After two years of receiving inadequate treatment from the traditional healthcare system, I was fortuitously introduced to craniosacral. At the time, I was still experiencing many confusing, subtle effects of repetitive concussions. The worst being my ability to sleep. I would often go 3-5 nights in a row without being able to sleep through the night. Additionally, I had constant pain in my head. After receiving my first treatment, I was able to sleep so deeply for the first time in years and could begin to feel the deep pain in my head beginning to quiet. The results were so potent that an immediate interest to understand the healing benefits seized me and I knew I wanted to spread and share the wonderful gift that is craniosacral therapy.
2. How would you describe your approach or specialties?
My approach to craniosacral therapy is that the body has a natural tendency to want to heal itself. I am just the facilitator but you (and your body) are actually doing the work. Craniosacral therapy puts your body into an optimal state to allow healing to occuer. I follow the traditional craniosacral therapy modality taught by the Upledger Institute, where I am certified from. I am also reiki certified and have been practicing for two years prior to my craniosacral certification. The two modalities pair effectively well together as craniosacral focuses more on manual manipulation of the bones and reiki focuses more on energy work, so I am able to do both at the same time!
3. What would you tell someone before their first craniosacral session?
I would tell you that it is very gentle and noninvasive, involving such subtle, longer movements that it will feel different to traditional chiropractic and massage experiences. It is very relaxing and great for activating your parasympathetic nervous system (your rest and digest state!). You can expect to fall asleep sometimes, naturally experience deep belly breathing, body twitches, and buzzing/warmth sensations.
4. Tell us what you love to do when you're not working!
When I am not working, I love being outside the most! I love music, art, dancing, being silly, reading, and I enjoy putting a lot of time into my friendships and community.
5. How can people find you?
You can find me at Be Free on Saturdays, through my business card, or through my personal phone and email. I am still working on creating more online avenues to finding myself! 832-523-4496 rsmitty1223@gmail.com
6. What do you love about Be Free Healing Center?
What I love most about Be Free is the authenticity and the wonderful space for community that it offers.
